We are fortunate that this initiative is valued as a viable means of preserving our history. Thanks Tyrone Davenport and team.
Dr. Wanda Shurney, DMC Pediatrician & President of the Sickle Cell Association of Detroit informed attendees about the history and significant impact that bone marrow transplants are having on sickle cell patients.
U.S. Congresswoman Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick discussed why she championed this cause and resolution. She engaged the audience in a Q&A about the critical need to continue this campaign year-round, throughout the country.
The Lovelace Family of Metro Detroit met their 7 year old daughters' donor, Martrell Perry and family via a Skype visit.
Martrell registered while a student at Hampton University years ago and answered the call without hesitation to save the life of M. Lovelace! Moms' testimony and gratitude to Martrell created a very emotional moment for all present.
5 individuals were inspired to join the registry on-site. We were prepared to serve them even though our focus is no longer recruit.
